Agency Profile

Grambling State University Police Department (GSUPD) is responsible for ensuring the safety of over 5,000 students with a staff of 18 sworn officers. In 2022, GSUPD arrested 25 individuals for illegally possessing firearms and confiscated 24 illegal guns. Grambling State University’s location poses more security challenges than some other higher education institutions because the campus is situated on the main road of the City of Grambling, and entry onto campus cannot be controlled or closed off.

GSUPD plans to use the Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative (RVCRI) grant to implement an automated license plate reader (ALPR) program to assist officers in operating efficiently and enhancing investigative capacity. Increase investigations can lead to an increase in reporting, which will create opportunities for more prosecutable cases and convictions and, ultimately, a reduction in violent criminal activity.
