Agency Profile
The Burke County, Georgia, Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), with a total staff of 136, is the principal law enforcement agency for Burke County, serving a population of 24,310. BCSO is comprised of multiple divisions including Field Operations, Criminal Investigations, the Detention Center, and Court Services. BCSO is committed to community partnerships through its School Resource Program, Community Outreach Program, Citizen’s Police Academy, and partnership with various neighborhood organizations. Over the past two years, BCSO has experienced an increase in violent crime.
BCSO proposes to fund the hiring of a full time Crime Analyst, which will support the Sheriff’s Office to help better understand the drivers and patterns of violent crime within its jurisdiction. This effort will help ensure timely internal dissemination of crime analysis data as well as bolster community partnerships and joint problem-solving efforts in identified crime hot spots.
