Agency Profile

The Espanola, New Mexico, Police Department (EPD) has a staff of 10 sworn officers, serving a population of over 10,000 individuals. The Espanola community has been plagued with motor vehicle thefts steadily rising over the past 10 years. Due to a lack of staffing, the EPD seeks to leverage technology to increase its capacity to serve and protect the residents of Espanola.

The EPD plans to implement Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology to reduce the number of motor vehicle thefts, increase the recovery rate of stolen vehicles, and address narcotics trafficking. The information gained from the ALPRs will be crucial to solving active cases.
