The Kent, New York, Police Department (KPD) has a staff of 20 sworn officers, serving a population of over 13,000 individuals. In recent years, Kent has seen an increase in criminal motorcycle gang activities and other gangs coming from surrounding states to commit vehicle larcenies.

The KPD intends to implement violence reduction strategies through a multi-faceted approach comprised of Street Cop training, implementing automated license plate readers (ALPRs) evidence-tracking software, and enhancing participation in a regional real time crime center (RTCC). The RTCC will use ALPRs, a variety of data sources, and information sharing to enhance inter-agency collaboration and leverage technology to solve complex violent crimes.
